Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies
This is our favorite and the most-requested cookie in our house. It’s a classic chocolate chip cookie but add whole wheat flour and toasted walnuts taking this cookie to a new level. We think whole wheat flour adds a layer of depth to most baked goods and we tend to sub out at least half, if not all, of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. Give these cookies a try, they will sure to be gone in a jiffy!
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
- ¾ cup dark brown sugar packed
- ¾ cup granulated white sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 eggs at room temperature
- 1 cup 100% whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup walnuts toasted, chopped
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F.
- In a stand mixer bowl or a large bowl, cream the butter.
- Add the brown sugar and the white sugar and mix until smooth and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat until combined.
- In a separate bowl, sift together both flours, the baking soda, and the salt. Add to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Add the walnuts and chocolate chips and fold into the dough.
- On a parchment-lined baking sheet place about two tablespoons of dough. You can also use a cookie scoop or an ice cream scoop. Keep about two inches between each cookie to allow the cookies to spread.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers will still be a little soft. Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for 2 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
