Watermelon Basil Gin Fizz

This Watermelon Basil Gin Fizz is super easy to make and incredibly refreshing – perfect for a hot, summer day. Watermelon muddled with fresh basil with a hint of lime, splash of gin, and topped off with sparkling water. We finished this cocktail off with a chili salt rimmed glass, which is totally optional, but highly recommended.

We love watermelon and always look forward to summer for all the summer seasonal fruits. Watermelon reminds us of long summer days by the pool or summer picnics with family and friends. The common denominator being a large platter filled with watermelon slices – so yum!

Watermelon has such a great natural sweetness to it and it’s definitely highlighted in this drink. We tend to like our drinks on the less sweet side, so feel free to add some simple syrup or even a drizzle of honey to sweeten this cocktail up.

Course Drinks
Servings 2 drinks

Ingredients

  • 2 cups watermelon cubed & seeds removed
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil chopped
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 3 oz gin
  • 2 cups sparkling water

Chili Salt (optional)

  • ¼ cup salt
  • 1 tsp coarse chili powder
  • pinch of sugar

Instructions

  • Add the watermelon and basil to a shaker and muddle until everything is smashed well.
  • Add the lime juice and gin to the shaker, place the lid, and shake well for about 30 seconds.
  • To make the chili salt, combine all three ingredients in a shallow plate. Rim your glasses with lime first and then rim it with the chili salt. The lime will help the salt stick to the glass.
  • Add ice cubes to the two rimmed glasses and divide the watermelon mixture between them. Top each glass with 1 cup of the sparkling water and garnish with some basil.
